Welcome

Good Job!  Thank you for joining so quickly, just a few things... I don't know your e-mail address or sign in and how it relates to your face, so for now please sign all posts and comments with your real first name and block, you need to check the blog everyday.  There will be assignments and extra credit opportunities posted exclusively on here.  I would like for you to use this as an opportunity to get feed back from other writers in class on your extended writing assignments as well as a way to communicate with me.  As your first assignment, please post, as a comment on this post, a short paragraph, 5-7 sentences explaining what each letter in the grading scale means to you.  I've included an example attached.

For me, all grade begin with the "C". "C" means average, mediocre, that one has done what is expected and nothing more. "F" is easy, one did not make the minimum effort to do the job and/or task that one was assigned. A "B" is for good work, when one has done the job well, something above average. An "A" is reserved for advanced work, as when one takes an assignment and does the best that can be done with it, knocks the assignment out of the park so to speak. Each of you should aim to make "A"s, but understand that a "B" is good, and for an AP class anything else is unacceptable.

In my opinion, anything less than an "A" is unacceptable. The remaining letters are for those who lack the drive to strive for perfection. "B" is acceptable in some cases, where achieving an "A" was barely missed. "C" is never acceptable. "C" is for those who do the bare minimum. "F" isn't even in my vocabulary. Failure isn't an option.

I think that a "F" is showing no effoert at all. A"C" is doing the best that you can do, and trying really hard.A "B" is striving to do good to get an "A". An "A" is doing a great job and thats good. In an AP class a b is acceptable becasue it is on a different.

. . . F's are not something i aim for especially my junior and senior years . C's are not my best work somthing i put together the night before. B's and or A's are grades that i strive for and love too bring home and show my family .B's and A's Are really the only grades that ALL students should have.

To me your grades represent your desire to learn, as well as your comprehension and the quality of your work. To have an "A" average shows you understand the work you've been given and are possibly able to teach it to a fellow classmate who has a lesser understanding of the matter. If you have a "B" you may be trying to do your best but there are areas you may need to improve on. A "C" shows you are slacking you may not care so much as to actually do your work; you would just be doing the bare minimum to get the credits or so you don't have to repeat the class.I believe a "C" should be the absolute lowest grade any AP or Honors student should recieve on any of their work. To recieve an "F" shows you have no interests in the class and arent trying because you have absolutely no desire to know whats going on and you do not belong in that class but in a class more suitable for those learning desires. An "F" is unacceptable and not what i would strive for in any class or grade.

Wow! I didn't realize that you were all reaching so high. I am glad to hear it. Cheyenne, I agree with your assessment, I've never thought of it in terms of reteaching, but that is it. Ladies and Gents, don't be lazy, deal with the read squiggly lines when you've misspelled something here too!

If you really care about your grades then you should make an effort in the class. To me a "f" means your're not trying & don't care about your grades, school, or your future & your just being lazy. A "c" mean your're trying your best & your working really hard but you still need a little help. A "b" mean you're striving to be the best & a "A" mean you are already at your best & you're going to be successful later in life. I know my grade wasn't what I wanted it to be, but I was just being lazy, I promise to do better next time.

To me I think that an A demonstrates that you know the material for the class. I understand that B's represent that you studied ,but not enough. To me the C tells that you need improvement in that specific category.F's are just disrespectful to yourself and the teacher. It says that you don't care about your work.By asking questions and listening in class this can help improve that F to an A.

My beliefs on each letter of the grading scale comes from seeing how my parents react when they recieve a report card. The grade "F" is very, very, very rare in my household because of the simple fact that they are uneceptable. A "F" simply means failure with a capital "F" and how many parents get the joy of having someone they don't personally know tell them their child is a failure for lack of trying at all. A lot of students are happy with a "C" because they passed but you cant just get by in life. To me a "C" says "I showed up to class and did just enough so I could keep my teacher off my back", not as acceptable as a "B". A "B", in my opinion, means you did your BEST. When you get a "B" not only did you pass but you set forth your best effort and you can probably hold and accurate conversation on what you've learned. The best grade known to students, parents, and teachers alike is an "A". An "A" is a definite accomplishment that says "not only did I try and do my best, I went the extra mile and worked hard." To be an "A" student you dont have to be a genius but take your time to learn, ask questions, do your work, and try because it doesn't take a genius to try.

To me an "F" means that you really do not care and you make no efforts. A "C" either means you barely passed, or you are really striving and trying to do your best. For a "B" i think that it means you were either striving to get and "A". Last i would like to say an "A" represents that person being a very hard worker and striving not only to do their best but the BE the best!!

To begin with I'd like to say that an "A" average indicates that you're a very hard-working, determined, and focused student. It also shows that you care about getting your work done and being successful. A "B" average shows that you're trying your best but you can do better to strive for an "A" because you're basically almost there. Either you're being lazy or you'd just rather settle for less than exceeding. However, a "C" average is satisfactory. Not much I can say about it. Lastly, an "F" is the worst possible grade to get. It shows that you do not care and you're showing no effort to succeed whatsoever.

To me your grades reflect who you are. If you settle for less in life and do nothing to get better you get "F's", yet, if you strive to do the very best you can with everything you do you get "A's". In my opinion an "F" means you did nothing at all..high "F" ...low "F" it's STILL and "F"! A "C" is no better than an "F", it basically means you just did the bare minimun to at least pass! A person with a "C" might think of it as passing but its still a poor grade. Next on the list is a "B", whenever I receive a "B" I always feel like im letting myself down. No, it's not me being hard on myself it's me being real! Getting a "B" is like saying you almost did good enough, it's like you almost got a 100 but nooooo you got a 99. ...."B's" make me angry!!! To me, an A is the top dog in this category! "A's" mean that you did everything you could and MORE! To me getting an "A" means I exceeded every expectation that was put on whatever work it may be. Usually "A's" can be hard to earn. But when you work hard 24/7 like myself, all you have to do is put in your best effort. That's what the greading scale means to me.

The grading scale is best interpreted, at this point in my schooling, as the pay i am receiving for all of my hard work as a student. The 'A' is the highest rank of pay one can recieve. The 'A' also puts you in place to be envied as well as admired by your classmates. The 'B' although less in value is still quite a check to receive. The 'C' and below however are very hard wages to build a life around. Athough many students perceive school as a job with no pay i strongly disagree with this opponion.

To me the grading scale reflects how you are disciplined. If you dont care and your parents dont care then you know what your grade would be a F.But if your parents let you just do the minimum then you would have a C. So if your mom or dad wants you to strive something better you will have a B. If your parents want you to do 100% great work all the time then you would have an A.

The letters in the grading scale means many things to me. "F" stands for failure. It means you didn't do anything in class, you slept, or you just didn't care. It also likely means that your going to fail in life. Many people think a "C" is average. Many people think you tried your best, but that was all you where able to get. A "C" to me means you just got lucky. It means you didn't do any work, or listened. You just got it because you did enough to past so you can tell your parents your doing good. A "B" stands for, you did your work, pasted, and paying attention. It means that your average and that the teacher doesn't really have a problem with you. The best grade anybody would want is a "A". It means that you surppassed the class, and that you know what your doing. It means you pay attention, do all your work and pass with flying colors. That's what the letter grades mean to me.

Having a F means like "oh you didnt do anything or you attempted to do your work." A "C" to me means I did my work but I probably couldnt understand or finish it. But many parents still say a C is still bad as a high F. The B is a good grade cause you show that you do your work and didnt really miss anything but one or two assignments. But you shouldnt strive for just a B because an A is the best. The A shows that you're an outstanding person who does makeup work, get good grades on tests, and also has outstanding ethics (because some teachers grade them too).

The letter grades A,B,C,and F reflect on what you know and what you do in class. F, especially near the end of a semester, means you are F!@#$%. C means you just made it. B is basic not bad but not above and beyond which leaves A as above and beyond. It doesnt take much to get an F as evidenced by a zero I once had a C is what you get when you try to make up your work torward the end of the grading period. B is obtained with a steady flow of work while an A is earned through hard time in your work

The letter grades A-F, is in my opinion a classification on your character only in special cases if it's not. I like to strive for an "A", but procrastination is my arch-enemy. An "A" to me means exceptional exemplary in doing your work and sacrficial dedication to one's assignments. a "B" to me is something thats good, but not "Good Enough". A "C" to me just means you haven't lived up to ypur full potential or your just not trying your hardest. an "F" to me is a "No Excuse" grade, which basically means you are a failure because you didn't try at all or even attempt to do your work; which now lables you as a failure.

An "A" is something to be proud of and shows half the person you are. It says that you are the best at what you do. A "B" as my mother says is pretty fair, no it's not good as an A but means to me that you have the potential to get better. A "C" says that you're just settling. You mine as well just say that you're happy to just get by in life. Who wants to just settle. Anywho, that's what i think.

Letter grades to me represent a standard mark of what type o job the student is doing ion the class. "F" is represented to tell the student that they are leading towards failor. No sugar coating! "C" represents average, doing enough to get by. "B" representation is to tell the student that they are doing a good job, keep up the good work, or to try a litte harder. Finally, "A" represents excellence and getting the job done to perfection.

The letter "A" means you go girl you passing this class you have nothing to worry about now. The letter "B" means okay its not an "A" but it's okay at least i'm passing. The letter "C" means wow i'm close to failing i need to see what i'm missing before I have an "F". The letter "F" means Oh my god my mother is going kill me im going have to bug my teacher into he/she tells me im passing. This is what every letter means to me and the first thought that goes through my mind.

An "A" is when you have done your absolute best no if's and's or but's about it. Yes you may sometimes find yourself making a "B" every now and then simply because doing your best was some what not enough at that moment, but that's nothing to be discourage about. On the other hand getting labeled as a "C" or "F" student is beyond imaginable for me. Making a "C" is basically saying you were a smidge better than an "F". No one I mean no one should ever make a "F" not if you've tried your hardest. An "F" is obtained when you have not put any energy to completing an assignment which is considered pathetic if the reason isn't understandable.

Brittany Mckeller said...

Well to me making a "F" is when you just don't care. You just have given up and not putting any effort in your work. Making a "C" is when you is really trying, but not trying hard enough. Like you said Ms. Farrell, it's average and I agree with you on that. Once you make that see you feel like you can just stop there. Making an "A" is when you done gave it your all and really put in some time and effort.
